The cremation service

Before

The crematorium chapel seats 94 downstairs and 36 in the gallery, is bookable at forty minute intervals from 10am until 4.40pm.

Services at 9am & 9.30am are thirty minutes only, at a reduced fee.

It is possible to book a longer time for an additional charge. Feel free to inspect our premises, without prior appointment, and talk to a member of staff if you think this will help you in making the funeral arrangements.

During

Words & Music

The Board places no restriction on how your time in the chapel is used and you should be free to suggest any prayers, readings, poetry and eulogies, in consultation with your officiant, if you have one, that you think will be most appropriate for the occasion.

William Congreve, the eighteenth century poet wrote, “Music alone with sudden charms can bind the wand’ring sense and calm the troubled mind”. Music can play an important part in the service and can mean so much to relatives and friends.

Organ MusicOrgan Music

Mortlake Crematorium is one of the few which can boast a real pipe organ. Played from the gallery, and therefore out of sight, the instrument was built by John Hayward Compton in 1939.  Although of modest specification it works well in our excellent acoustic. Your Funeral Director or our staff can give you names of organists that can be hired for your service.

Soloists & Rehearsals

As an alternative to congregational singing (or as well as) visiting soloists are welcome to perform and other instrumental music for brass, strings or harp can also be used with good effect.

After

Floral Tributes :

These will be displayed in one of two floral courtyards and will be left on view, for five days following the service, unless it is requested that they remain longer.

The Reception :

Following the cremation service you may wish to hold a reception for family and friends. Whilst many may choose to return to the family home others may wish to arrange for this to be in the locality of the crematorium. Here are just few suggestions. Please do let the venue know that you found the details from the Mortlake Crematorium Website and they will be pleased to discuss your personal requirements.
